With fierce determination, my mother, Norene White, used our humble beginnings as a source of strength, creating the life and future she wanted. As I reflect on our journey together, I continue to be inspired by her strength and resilience and the many valuable lessons she taught me along the way.

From a young age, I was used to working hard to help my family. If I wasn’t at school, I was milking the cows, driving tractors and tending to the farm. The farm life, while incredibly challenging, instilled in me valuable lessons and shaped my character in profound ways. It was on that farm where I would witness the spark that ignited my mother's journey into the world of real estate.

In 1975, with her characteristic determination, my mother began studying for her real estate license, often studying on the back of a soybean truck as she helped my father with farming. The relentless labor of the farm instilled in her a belief that there had to be an easier way to make a living, ultimately driving her to venture into real estate. Her tenacity led to a historic achievement, becoming the first woman in Gulf Shores to own her own real estate company in 1975, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire me.

While the farm instilled work ethic, the real estate business developed a shared passion for service. She showed me that with the right determination, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. From the very beginning of her career, I was right there, learning with her. Every milestone and every challenge we experienced together. From 1977 to 1987, I worked as her assistant before we partnered up as REALTORS®.

Our mother-daughter partnership was more than just a professional collaboration; it was a journey of shared growth and learning. She approached life with a people-first mindset and instilled in me the same values. We sought to serve our community and make a positive difference.

In her final years, my mother faced health challenges, and it was our turn to care for her. For a decade, my husband and I became her primary caregivers. It was a period of transformation, a time that reinforced the significance of family and unconditional love. We were blessed with wonderful caregivers who enabled us to keep my mother at home. When Parkinson’s took away her ability to speak, I could still communicate with her beautifully. She has been with me my entire life — our bond transcended words.

Losing her in 2017 was very difficult, but I will always be grateful for the time we did have, as our lives were so closely intertwined. From nurturing relationships and building community connections to fighting for my clients' best interests, I find endless opportunities in my day to honor her and the values she instilled in me.

As I reflect on the lessons learned and the experiences shared with my mother, I am reminded of the enduring bond we had. Her journey in real estate inspired mine, and her unwavering determination continues to be a source of motivation for me. The values she imparted, from hard work and determination to the significance of family, have become the guiding principles of my life.

As I reflect on my journey, I owe much of my success to the unique upbringing I had, experiencing the duality of farm life and running a real estate business. The hardships and blessings, the challenges and triumphs, they have all contributed to making me the person I am today.

After caring for my mother for 10 years, my husband and I have been gradually learning to embrace adventures again. In the past, we both enjoyed fishing and boating; these days, we spend a lot of time in the garden. We have two daughters and a granddaughter who are involved in the real estate business, continuing our family legacy in the industry. We also have a fur baby, Godiva, who brings joy and laughter to our lives every day!

I absolutely love what I do — real estate is more than just a job to me; it’s a lifelong passion centered around building relationships with people in the communities I love. What really drives me is the ability to make a positive impact in the lives of those I serve. It's not just about closing deals; it's about supporting and caring for my clients and going the extra mile. Many of my clients become lifelong friends, a testament to my people-first approach not only in real estate, but in life!

One of the most exciting aspects of my job is helping people sell. From investment properties to personal residences, each new listing is like a blank canvas waiting to be transformed. I take pride in my eye for design and strategic marketing, presenting the property in the best light! For buyers, I enjoy guiding you through the home-search process, helping establish your priorities and the lifestyle you want to live. With 35+ years of experience, I know how to adapt to the ever-changing market and ensure my clients always receive the best care!

Sincerely,

Melissa White
